The Shumacher Group is an Atlanta-based restaurant real estate company that specializes in two principal areas: site selection for regional and national restaurant chains and the sale of existing restaurant businesses. In addition the company lists surplus properties and selected sub-leases.
The majority of the company’s work is in the metro Atlanta area but we have worked throughout the Southeastern United States directly or through referrals with other brokerage companies.
The Shumacher Group was founded in 1987 and has successfully negotiated hundreds of transactions.

Harold V. Shumacher is the President and Managing Broker for The Shumacher Group, Inc. In his 20+ year career, Shumacher has successfully negotiated hundreds of leases, purchases of existing businesses and land purchases with an aggregate value in excess of $500 million. Among the companies Shumacher has or is currently working with are Legal Sea Foods, Lettuce Entertain You, J. Alexander’s, Houston’s, Golden Corral, Jim N’ Nick’s, Verizon Wireless, Hooter’s, Schlotzsky’s Deli and Logan’s Roadhouse.
A Michigan native, Harold moved to Atlanta in 1970 and initially worked as a public school teacher. Prior to starting his own company he was a restaurant reviewer for the Atlanta Journal Constitution (and the author of two restaurant guidebooks), the president of a restaurant consulting company, Training Director for the Atlanta Hilton and Towers Hotel, and an administrator at Georgia State University.

Steven Josovitz is vice president of The Shumacher Group, having joined the firm in 1992. As an Associate Real Estate Broker, he heads up the company’s restaurant business brokerage division in addition to providing commercial retail and restaurant real estate site selection, sales and lease negotiation expertise. A former restaurant owner and trained professional chef, Steven has an extensive background in restaurant and hotel management. He also offers consulting, appraisal services and has been retained by law firms for his expert opinion to help settle disputes. Mr. Josovitz earned a B.S. in Hotel/Restaurant Management from Florida International University in 1981. Mr. Josovitz is a member of the Georgia Restaurant Association, Georgia Association of Business Brokers (GABB), International Council of Shopping Centers and the Retail Brokers Network. As a 20 year GABB Member Steven has attained ”Life Member-GABB Million Dollar Club” status and annually receives the “Top Five” award for highest business and restaurant brokerage sales in Georgia. In 2011 Steven received a third award GABB’s Listing Agent of the Year. A South Africa native, Irving has been actively involved in the commercial real estate business for over 20 years. As Vice-President and Associate Broker, his primary responsibility with the Shumacher Group is representing national and regional tenants for land purchases and lease negotiations.

An almost-native Atlantan and University of Georgia graduate, Peter joined the company full time last summer. Starting in 2011 Peter worked part-time as a research associate and our in-house mapping and technology guru. His initial focus will be tenant representation while he pursues his CCIM credentials.
