Peachtree Center is a multi-block (16) neighborhood located in Downtown AtlantaGeorgia. Most of the buildings that make up the district were designed by Atlanta architect John C. Portman, Jr.. Many of the buildings are connected by a network of enclosed pedestrian sky bridges. The district is served by the Peachtree Center MARTA station, providing access to rapid transit. Most of Peachtree Center was developed in the 1970s, and the buildings and embody the modern architectural style popular at the time. At one time, the name “Peachtree Center” only referred to the actual Portman development, which originally included a 4,000-room conference atrium hotels (the Westin Peachtree Plaza HotelHyatt Regency Atlanta, and Atlanta Marriott Marquis), office towers (including the SunTrust Plaza Tower & SunTrust Plaza Garden Offices, Marquis One & Marquis Two, and the 230 Peachtree Street building among others),AmericasMart, the Inforum, dozens of shops and restaurants, observation decks, athletic facilities, and art museums. However, since all the buildings that made up the original Peachtree Center development are no longer currently under the same ownership, the definition of what is now considered Peachtree Center has expanded beyond from what was originally designed by John Portman & Associates and now is used to describe the whole area, regardless of whether the block was part of the original Peachtree Center development.[1]
