The Shumacher Group reports a Busy Start to the Year

As nervous retailers continue to look over their shoulder for more pending signs of doom and gloom, the restaurant sector remains strong, at least in Metro Atlanta, according to Harold Shumacher, managing broker and president of The Shumacher Group Inc.

“We’ve had a very active first and second quarter and it’s trending that same way for the end of the year” says Shumacher, a veteran observer of the local real estate and hospitality scene for more than 40 years.

“There is activity in most of the segments, including fast casual, quick service and casual dining. If there’s a lag it’s at the fine dining end of the spectrum though local chefs continue to make their mark.”

Since January the company has been involved with the following.

Babalu, based in Jackson Ms., will open it’s first Atlanta location in early summer at 33 Peachtree Place in Midtown. This will be the company’s eighth location. The menu features a variety of tapas and taco dishes, the vast majority featuring locally sourced food products, in a combination of Latin-inspired dishes with Southern touches. The lease was negotiated by Harold Shumacher and Steven Levy, of Levy Commercial Real Estate in Memphis Tn.

Long –time Shumacher brokers Irving Jacobson and Steven Josovitz , have successfully negotiated four leases or business acquisitions for newcomer Local Pizzaiol0.   The locations, listed by likely order of opening, include; West Midtown, Toco Hills, Sandy Springs and Madison Yards, on Memorial Dr.

Peter Kruskamp, also with The Shumacher Group, Inc. and Harold Shumacher represented Bojangles’ corporate in the acquisition of new sites in Fayetteville and Duluth, Georgia. Both stores should open by year’s end.

Denver –based, Bad Daddy’s has completed a lease for their second location in Decatur, at North Decatur Square, a development being anchored by Whole Foods 365 and expected to open in 2018. The company was represented locally by Harold Shumacher.

Irving Jacobson represented Sage in their successful leasing of the former Houston’s location on Powers Ferry Rd. Jacobson also represented Wahlburger’s, for their first metro Atlanta location, slated to open early summer, at The Battery at Sun Trust Park.

Based in Atlanta, the Shumacher Group Inc. specializes in site selection, disposition of surplus properties and sale and purchase of existing business. The company is also a long-time member of Retail Brokers Network, the largest retail networking organization in the country with 55 affiliates/offices nation-wide.
